Asianfresh Food Market opened Sept. 3 at 2005 Marlton Pike East in Cherry Hill. The store is the township's third major Asian grocery alongside H Mart and Hung Vuong Food Market.
Asianfresh held its grand opening Sept. 12, drawing a large crowd for a red ribbon-cutting ceremony, lion dancing, a DJ and a durian-eating contest, Eastside reported. Cherry Hill Council President Bill Carter and Council Member Sangeeta Doshi attended.
Cherry Hill is the second location for Asianfresh, which also operates a store in Philadelphia's Chinatown, 42 Freeway reported. The Route 70 space was previously home to Oscar Huber Furniture and, decades earlier, a Clover discount store. The shopping center also houses a Planet Fitness.
Inside, the store stocks noodles, sauces, seasonings, snacks and beverages tied to Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Filipino and other Asian cuisines, according to Progressive Grocer, which visited during Labor Day weekend. Large produce tables, digital promotional signs and a seafood department with live tanks fill the floor. Pallets and case stacks of rice, coconut milk and other staples give parts of the store a warehouse feel.
Asianfresh also offers wholesale pricing for local businesses and restaurants, according to Eastside.
Manager Yan Lin told Eastside the goal is "to bring fresh products to the entire community at affordable prices."
The store lists strawberries at $1 per pound, compared with $3.99 to $4.49 per pound at conventional grocers, according to Eastside. Select crabs start at $1.99 per pound. One shopper told Eastside the prices are comparable to other Asian markets in the area. A post on 42 Freeway's Facebook page called prices better than Hung Vuong and H Mart.
Lin said the company chose Cherry Hill because of its cultural diversity. "There's a diverse population in this area, and people have more choices," Lin told Eastside.
Asian Americans made up 11% of New Jersey's population in 2023, according to a Pew Research Center analysis cited by Progressive Grocer. Asianfresh sits less than two miles from H Mart's renovated Cherry Hill store.
The store is open daily, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
