Cherry Hill's vote-by-mail ballot drop box has moved from the municipal building to the Cherry Hill Public Library at 1100 Kings Highway North.
Voters who used the old drop-off site at 820 Mercer Street will now find the secure box in the library's driveway circle, according to the township's website. No reason was given for the move.
The box is available around the clock through the close of polls on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3. It is lit and monitored by video surveillance cameras.
The change comes as tens of thousands of Cherry Hill voters already have ballots in hand. The Camden County Clerk's Office delivered more than 96,000 vote-by-mail ballots to the Bellmawr Post Office on Sept. 15 for distribution to registered voters across the county. All ballots were expected to reach homes after Sept. 20.
Camden County Clerk Pamela Lampitt urged voters to plan ahead in a Sept. 15 statement, calling vote by mail "easy, convenient and can be done in the comfort of your home." She also reminded residents that the deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, Oct. 13, and the last day to apply for a mail-in ballot is Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Completed ballots dropped in the box must arrive by the close of polls on Nov. 3. Ballots sent by mail must be postmarked by Election Day and received within six days, according to the Camden County Board of Elections. The Cherry Hill drop box is one of about 30 secure locations across Camden County.
On the ballot this year are seats in the New Jersey General Assembly, the U.S. House of Representatives and the Camden County Board of Commissioners, among other offices.
Voters who prefer to cast ballots in person can use early voting at the Cherry Hill Community Center, 820 Mercer Street, from Saturday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 1. That address is the same location as the former drop box site.
Voters can track their mail-in ballot online at nj.gov/state/elections/vote-track-my-ballot.shtml.
The Cherry Hill Township Clerk's Office, at 820 Mercer Street, Room 107, can be reached at 856-488-7892, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
