Cherry Hill homeowners and businesses face a Sunday, Nov. 1, deadline for fourth-quarter property taxes and commercial sewer rents.

The township posted the reminder on its website, noting a 10-day grace period after the due date. Payments received after the close of business Tuesday, Nov. 10, will accrue interest dating back to Nov. 1.

Because the due date falls on a Sunday, when the municipal building is closed, taxpayers effectively have until that Tuesday evening to pay without penalty.

The grace period echoes a pattern familiar to Cherry Hill taxpayers. At the Township Council's Feb. 9 meeting, the council president reminded residents that the first-quarter grace period ended Feb. 18, according to council minutes.

How to pay

The Cherry Hill Tax Office lists three ways to submit payment before the grace period closes:

  • By mail: Send a check to the Cherry Hill Township Tax Collector's Office, 820 Mercer St., Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. Singling out mail payments, the township notes that the postmark date does not determine whether a payment is on time. The payment must arrive by the Nov. 10 cutoff.
  • In person: Drop off cash or a check at the Tax Collector's Office inside the Cherry Hill Municipal Building, 820 Mercer St.
  • Online: Visit CHNJ.gov, click "Pay Online" and select "Tax and Sewer Bill." The township accepts credit cards, debit cards and electronic checks (e-checks).

Interest on late payments is calculated from the original Nov. 1 due date, not from the end of the grace period. That means a payment received Nov. 11 would owe interest for 10 days, not one.
