Downed utility wires forced the closure of Route 70 westbound at Cuthbert Boulevard in Cherry Hill on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The Cherry Hill Police Department announced the shutdown on X, warning drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The department said it would provide updates as more information became available.
Patch reported the closure as well, citing police. As of Patch's last update at 7:33 p.m. Thursday, no all-clear had been issued and the road remained closed.
Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds were forecast for Camden County on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Whether the storms caused the downed wires has not been confirmed.
The Cherry Hill Police Department did not identify which utility company owned the wires or provide a reopening timeline.
