Cherry Hill drivers who use Church Road and Haddonfield Road are a step closer to road improvements. Camden County commissioners are set to vote Thursday, Aug. 20, on a $226,217.97 engineering design contract for the two corridors.

The seven-member Board of Commissioners will take up the contract, along with a shared-services agreement for Route 70 landscape work, at its noon meeting at the Camden County Courthouse in Camden, according to the county's meeting agenda.

Resolution 5 would award the design contract to Artheon, Inc. (also known as CME Associates), a Camden-based firm that has previously served as a planning consultant for Cherry Hill's Planning Board. The work covers roadway improvements to Church Road (County Route 616) and Haddonfield Road (County Route 644) in Cherry Hill, Pennsauken and Merchantville. Commissioner Al Dyer, the board's liaison to the Department of Public Works, is sponsoring the resolution.

This is a design phase, not construction. Actual road work would follow in a later contract.

The county and Cherry Hill Township have worked together on Church Road before. A February 2025 county agenda included an amendment to a shared-services agreement between the two for roadway improvements on the same stretch.

Resolution 29, sponsored by Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, would authorize a separate shared-services agreement between the county's Department of Parks and the New Jersey Department of Transportation for landscape improvements along Route 70 in Cherry Hill and Pennsauken. No dollar amount is listed for that agreement.

The two Cherry Hill items are part of an 80-resolution agenda that also includes a $3.05 million Motorola radio-system contract and a $26 million bond guarantee for energy conservation projects at Camden County Technical Schools. The board typically adopts resolutions in a single block vote; at its June 19, 2025, meeting, all commissioners present voted aye on the full slate.

The seven commissioners are Director Louis Cappelli Jr., Deputy Director Ed McDonnell and Commissioners Dyer, Cooley Fleisher, Nash, Bianco Bezich and Jonathan Young.
