Cherry Hill's Board of Fire Commissioners will formally acknowledge Assistant Fire Chief Timothy A. McGeady's retirement at its Wednesday, Aug. 19 meeting, capping a 32-year career with the department.
The board meets at 7 p.m. at Fire Headquarters, 1100 Markkress Road. Six resolutions are on the draft agenda, three of which carry direct public-safety implications for Cherry Hill's roughly 74,000 residents.
McGeady's retirement
McGeady's retirement from active duty took effect Aug. 1, with his last day on July 31. The Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters union, IAFF Locals 2663 and 3198, said in a July 31 Facebook post that McGeady logged more than 36 years in the fire service overall and 32 years specifically with Cherry Hill.
He took his oath as assistant fire chief at the board's May 15, 2023 meeting, serving alongside Fire Chief Wade J. Houlihan. Wednesday's resolution formally memorializes his departure.
Urban Search and Rescue MOU
The board will also vote on a Memorandum of Understanding to join Camden County's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force. The partnership would add a third county-level emergency response agreement for the district.
Commissioners already approved two related MOUs unanimously on July 15: one for a Swiftwater-Flood Rescue Task Force and another for a Rescue Task Force originally established by the county in 2016. Under those agreements, Camden County reimburses the district for damaged equipment and provides additional training and gear.
The full terms of the Urban Search and Rescue MOU have not been published. The July resolution establishing the earlier task forces noted that the district has the necessary personnel, training and equipment to serve as a participating agency, and that the county would supply additional resources as needed.
Four EMT appointments
Resolution #26-08-19-05 appoints four per diem Emergency Medical Technicians to fill existing vacancies. That's the largest single batch of per diem EMT hires in recent board records. The district appointed one career EMT and one per diem EMT at its March 2026 meeting.
The four names are not listed on the agenda.
The Cherry Hill Fire Department employs approximately 100 firefighters and 50 EMS personnel across seven stations.
Other business
Two additional resolutions cover a two-year Stryker equipment service contract renewal and authorization to advertise bids for firefighting foam. Neither item includes a dollar amount in the agenda. The board will also enter executive session to discuss personnel and litigation matters.
