Camden County mosquito spray trucks will roll through 39 Cherry Hill streets between 1 and 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, as part of a countywide operation to combat mosquito-borne illness.

The Camden County Mosquito Control Commission announced the operation on Wednesday, Aug. 26. The ultra-low volume spraying is weather-dependent.

Residents on the following streets are in the spray zone:

Morris Dr., Astor Dr., Pleasant Dr., Tearose Ln., Nature Dr., Cranford Rd., Ivy Ln., Jade Ln., Knollwood Dr., Knoll Ln., Lantern Ln., Coolidge Rd., Park Blvd., Munn Ave., Caldwell Rd., S. Kings Hwy., Maple Ave., Bala Rd., Wayne Rd., Overbrook Dr., Ambler Rd., St. Davids Rd., St. Martins Rd., Media Rd., Lenape Rd., Merion Rd., Colwick Rd., Colmar Rd., Kent Rd., Devon Rd., Haverford Rd., Aaron Ct., Chestnut St., Appley Ct., James Run, Kaighns Ave., Cooper Landing Rd., Beekman Pl. and Mara Ct.

What residents should do

The commission advises residents to remove standing water from flowerpots, containers, pool covers, bird baths, fountains and animal troughs before trucks arrive. Just a teaspoon of stagnant water can host more than 100 mosquito eggs, according to commission guidance.

Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, the county's liaison to the Mosquito Control Commission, said residents can reduce mosquito populations by eliminating breeding sites on their own property.

"Being proactive has a major impact on the mosquito population and helps the hardworking people at the Camden County Mosquito Control Commission in their efforts," Nash said in the county's announcement.

The commission works with the New Jersey Public Health Environmental Laboratories in Trenton to test for West Nile Virus. When an area tests positive, crews return to spray when mosquitoes are most active. Nash said in an Aug. 20 announcement for a separate Aug. 21 operation that the spray is not harmful to humans or pets, though people with respiratory concerns should avoid direct contact.

Fourth Cherry Hill operation this summer

Friday's spraying marks at least the fourth time this summer that commission trucks have targeted Cherry Hill streets. Prior operations ran July 30, Aug. 3 and Aug. 21, each covering different neighborhoods.

The Friday operation also includes streets in Lindenwold, Haddon Heights, Haddon Township, Somerdale, Oaklyn, Mt. Ephraim, Camden and Collingswood.
