Asianfresh Food Market opened its doors at 2005 Route 70 East in Cherry Hill, giving shoppers a new destination for imported Asian groceries, live seafood and bulk staples.
The store began a soft opening on Thursday, Sept. 3, according to NJ.com. A grand opening celebration is planned with giveaways and contests. Spokesperson Karen Louie described the plans to the Philadelphia Inquirer on Aug. 31, though details were still being finalized.
The Cherry Hill location is Asianfresh's first store in New Jersey and its second overall. The company opened its flagship on North 10th Street in Philadelphia's Chinatown in 2019, according to PhillyVoice. That store took over the space of the Imperial Inn restaurant and market, which had operated on 10th Street since the 1970s.
The new store sits in a shopping center originally developed decades ago as a Clover discount store. Planet Fitness occupies a neighboring unit, and Replay, an indoor children's playground, is expected to open at the other end.
What's inside
42Freeway's Mark Matthews walked the aisles after the store opened and described a fully built-out supermarket with a modern layout. A large produce section greets shoppers at the entrance, mixing familiar fruits and vegetables with specialty items used in Asian cooking.
Open refrigerated cases along the left wall hold dairy, prepared foods and other cold items. A center section is stacked with pallets of bulk goods, including 25-pound bags of rice.
The seafood department features live crabs, lobsters and a range of fresh fish. The Sun Papers reported the display includes Dungeness crabs.
Most products on the shelves are Asian brands and imports covering sauces, noodles, seasonings, beverages, snacks and health and beauty items. A few American names show up too. Matthews spotted Oreos, Carnation and Lay's, but even those came in imported packaging with flavors not sold in typical South Jersey stores. He noted an entire aisle of Asian snack flavors, including Spicy Crayfish Lay's potato chips.
PhillyVoice reported the store carries exotic and seasonal produce such as grape plums, Korean pears and dragon fruit, with products imported from China, Korea, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines.
Opening promotions
A tiered spending promotion is running through the opening period, NJ.com reported. Customers who spend $38 receive a free reusable bag. Spending $68 earns a free case of KFS Bowl Noodles, $88 a case of Vitasoy, $128 a case of Shin Ramyun and $198 a free 25-pound bag of Golden Elephant Rice.
Growing corridor
Asianfresh joins H Mart and Hung Vuong Food Market as the third major Asian grocery store in Cherry Hill, with Sun Seng Supermarket in neighboring Pennsauken also nearby. H Mart recently completed a renovation of its Route 70 location, adding a food court, bakery and beauty shop.
Cherry Hill Township's Asian population grew 32% between 2014 and 2024, according to U.S. Census Bureau data cited by the Inquirer.
The grand opening begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, near Old Orchard Road and the Evesham Township border.
