The Cherry Hill Arts Board will bring singers from Philadelphia's Academy of Vocal Arts to Croft Farm Arts Center on Sunday, Oct. 11 for a concert celebrating 250 years of American song.
"An American Vocal Journey," part of the township's Ensemble Series, features classics and contemporary pieces performed by members of AVA, a tuition-free conservatory founded in 1934 that accepts only eight to 10 singers per year through competitive auditions. The concert is tied to RevolutionNJ, the statewide initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution through programming running from 2024 to 2033.
The Ensemble Series has drawn attention from township leaders. Councilman Rob Connor told colleagues at the May 11 Township Council meeting that he and Mayor Fleisher attended an earlier Croft Farm concert, highlighting "upcoming America 250 celebrations" including the township's Independence Day event and historical programming at the library. Council President William Carter noted RevolutionNJ partnerships at the venue as early as the Feb. 9 council meeting.
Tickets are $20 general admission, or $15 for senior citizens with a gold card and students. Seating is first-come, first-served. Doors open at 2:30 p.m., and the performance begins at 3 p.m. Performances run 60 to 90 minutes.
The township recommends buying tickets in advance, as availability at the door is not guaranteed. Purchases made within seven days of the concert will be held at the door; earlier orders are mailed. Croft Farm Arts Center sits at 100 Bortons Mill Road. The historic property is listed on both the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places and has documented ties to the Underground Railroad. Guests should park in the lot adjacent to the property (the first driveway on the left, near the Dog Park) and cross to the main building via two pedestrian bridges. The venue is wheelchair accessible. Photography, video and audio recording are not permitted during the performance.
