Freshmen and sophomores at Cherry Hill High School East browsed 95 clubs and organizations at the school's annual activities fair Monday, Sept. 14 and Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The two-day event, held during lunch breaks in the courtyard next to the library, featured academic teams, cultural clubs and community service groups, Eastside, the school's student newspaper, reported.
Each club set up informational trifold displays. Student board members staffed the tables, pitching their organizations to underclassmen walking through.
Debisha Chadurhuri, a Cherry Hill East freshman, told Eastside the atmosphere stood out. "I learned that no matter … what grade you're in, everyone in the club is so welcoming," Chadurhuri said. "There [are] so many options to choose from."
Fellow freshman Isabel Kushiner said she liked the setup, with each club getting its own area staffed by board members.
Club leaders used the fair to recruit. Caitlin Shaw, a junior who founded the Pacific Islander Cultural Society, told Eastside she hoped underclassmen would discover groups they had never heard of before. "I'm really hoping that [freshmen and sophomores] find new clubs that they've never heard of before like [Pacific Islander Cultural Society]," Shaw said.
She added that she wanted students to learn about cultures they hadn't encountered before and feel accepted.
Collin Lu, a senior and debate captain for East's speech and debate team, said the fair gave freshmen a chance to ask questions of experienced members.
Cherry Hill East enrolls about 2,120 students in grades 9 through 12. The school is one of two comprehensive high schools in the Cherry Hill School District, which serves about 10,910 students across 18 schools.
The fair is an annual tradition. A 2025 edition was held in the DiBART Gym during homeroom, according to the Cherry Hill High School East PTA. This year's version moved outdoors to the courtyard and shifted to lunch periods.
Clubs are expected to begin holding interest meetings and first events as the school year gets underway. No specific meeting dates have been announced.
