Mosquito control trucks will roll through 16 Cherry Hill streets early Friday, Sept. 4, the second countywide spraying operation this week.

The Camden County Mosquito Commission will spray between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting, according to the county's spraying notice. The operation uses ultra-low volume, or ULV, equipment.

The Cherry Hill streets on the list: Edison Ave., Curtis Ave., Webster Ave., Whitman Ave., Conwell Ave., Sheridan Ave., Grant Ave., Wesley Ave., Cooper Ave., Madison Ave., Harrison Ave., Harding Ave., Park Dr., Jefferson Ave., N. Jefferson Ave. and Park Blvd.

The county also sprayed more than 40 Cherry Hill streets on Wednesday, Sept. 2, as we reported Sept. 1.

Friday's operation also covers streets in Runnemede, Stratford, Somerdale, Barrington, Audubon, Collingswood, Clementon, Haddonfield, Camden, Magnolia and Lindenwold.

Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, the county's liaison to the Mosquito Commission, said in an Aug. 20 spraying notice that the spray "is not harmful to humans or pets, but you should avoid direct contact if you have respiratory concerns or are sensitive to irritants."

The commission works with the New Jersey Public Health Environmental Laboratories in Trenton to test mosquito samples for West Nile virus and other diseases. Areas that test positive get follow-up treatments when mosquitoes are most active, Nash said in August.

Residents along the affected streets should close windows and bring pets inside before 1 a.m. Friday.

Nash urged residents in a Sept. 2 statement to check their properties for standing water. "You can help keep them off your property by removing water from places like flowerpots and containers," Nash said. "Being proactive has a major impact on the mosquito population."

According to the commission, a single teaspoon of stagnant water can host more than 100 mosquito eggs. Pool covers, bird baths, fountains and animal troughs should also be emptied regularly.
