Members of Jewish War Veterans Post 126 and the South Jersey Men's Club planted 2,977 American flags outside the Katz JCC in Cherry Hill, one for each person killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The two groups installed the flags at 1301 Springdale Road to mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks, Jewish Voices NJ reported. The display will remain through Friday, Sept. 11.
The ceremony drew representatives from more than a dozen organizations. Camden County Sheriff Chuck Billingham attended, along with members of the New Jersey State Police, the FBI, the Cherry Hill Fire Department, the Voorhees Fire and Police Departments and the Camden County Veterans Advisory Council. Cherry Hill Township Council members were also present.
The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Southern New Jersey and JFed Security also sent representatives.
The display is free and open to the public.
Cherry Hill will hold a separate remembrance ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11, at 8:30 a.m. at the township's 9/11 Memorial at Fire Headquarters, 1100 Marlkress Road, according to the township's event calendar. Mayor Dave Fleisher and the Township Council will join first responders at that event.
