Cherry Hill drivers face a week of detours and lane shifts on two major roads as utility and construction crews work through Friday, Sept. 4.
New Jersey American Water will shut down Cropwell Road between Marlowe Road and Kresson Road every night from Monday, Aug. 31, through Friday, Sept. 4, according to the Camden County roadwork advisory. The full closure runs 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. The county did not specify what type of utility work is being performed.
Kresson Road faces work on three segments. The stretch between Browning Avenue and Cropwell Road falls under a $7.17 million county contract awarded in August 2025 to Richard E. Pierson Construction Co. for roadway, drainage and traffic signal improvements, according to the county commissioners' agenda.
Here is what drivers should expect on Kresson Road, broken down by segment and day:
Heartwood Drive to Marlkress Road
- Monday, Aug. 31, and Tuesday, Sept. 1: lane shifts, lane closures and alternating traffic, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, Sept. 2, and Thursday, Sept. 3: lane shifts, lane closures and alternating traffic, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Cropwell Road to Springdale Road
- Monday, Aug. 31, and Tuesday, Sept. 1: westbound traffic placed on a one-way detour, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Springdale Road to Ravenswood Way
- Wednesday, Sept. 2, through Friday, Sept. 4: lane shifts, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Traffic signal improvements at the Springdale Road and Oakley Drive intersections during the same window.
The schedule means morning commuters will hit lane restrictions on Kresson Road every weekday.
Camden County Commissioner Al Dyer, the board's liaison to the Department of Public Works, said in the county's Aug. 31 roadwork advisory: "When you're traveling through a construction area, please slow down and stay alert for crew members and debris."
The county did not list specific alternate routes for the Cropwell Road overnight closure. Residents can report concerns about county roadways by calling the Department of Public Works at (856) 566-2980 or visiting camdencounty.com.
