A Camden County grand jury has indicted a Collingswood woman and a Philadelphia man on charges they ran a sex trafficking operation that moved victims, including a girl under 18, through Cherry Hill and other South Jersey locations between July and October 2025.
Dezeree Smith, of Collingswood, faces 19 criminal charges. Tamier R. Brown-Miller, of Philadelphia, faces 22. The charges include racketeering, kidnapping, human trafficking and promoting prostitution, according to the New Jersey Attorney General's Office, which announced the indictment on Wednesday, July 22. The indictment advances the case toward trial.
As we reported Tuesday, July 21, Attorney General Jennifer Davenport's office initially announced the charges against both defendants on that date.
What prosecutors allege
Smith and Brown-Miller ran a commercial sex trafficking operation that moved victims through Cherry Hill, Atlantic City, Gloucester City and Philadelphia over roughly three months, prosecutors said. One victim was a juvenile girl.
According to court records cited by NJ.com, Brown-Miller allegedly took explicit photos of the juvenile victim, advertised her online, gave her drugs, and sexually assaulted her. He and Smith allegedly moved the girl through Cherry Hill, Atlantic City, and into Pennsylvania between late July and early October 2025.
The scheme began to unravel in fall 2025 when Atlantic City police received a report that a minor was being sex trafficked, according to the Attorney General's Office.
A second victim, an adult woman, was allegedly kidnapped by Brown-Miller outside a 7-Eleven near his Philadelphia neighborhood, forced into a black car with tinted windows, and taken to a Holiday Inn in Philadelphia, where she was forced to have sex with men for money over two days, according to court records cited by the New York Post.
She was then driven to a Super 8 Motel in Gloucester City, where Brown-Miller allegedly confiscated her phone and posted online escort ads. Smith allegedly stayed in the room while clients came through to prevent the victim from seeking help, NJ.com reported.
The adult victim eventually escaped by secretly ordering a rideshare. Smith attacked her before she could leave. The fight spilled out of the motel room and up a staircase, where other residents intervened and called police. The victim had a swollen lip, a cut above her right eyebrow and bruises on her arms.
Investigators seized methamphetamine and four cellphones at the scene, according to court records.
Penalties and next steps
First-degree crimes in New Jersey carry 10 to 20 years in prison and fines up to $200,000. No trial date has been announced.
Attorneys for both defendants are with the Camden County Office of the Public Defender and declined to comment, according to NJ.com.
Davenport said in a statement on Wednesday, July 22 that New Jersey will continue to investigate and prosecute those who traffic and exploit victims while supporting survivors and connecting them with services.
