Two officers from American Legion Post 372 visited veterans living at Harmony Village in Cherry Hill on Saturday, July 18, and came home with two wheelchairs the facility donated for the post to pass along to veterans who need them.
Jack Walsh and Kim Finley made the trip to the Brace Road assisted living and memory care facility that afternoon, according to a report by Sue Quinn-Morris on the Post 372 website published Friday. Walsh drove the donated wheelchairs back to the Legion hall on Martin Avenue.
The visit had been open to all Post 372 members. A July 9 announcement on the post's website invited Legionnaires to meet at Harmony Village at 1:30 p.m., calling the outing a chance to show support for veterans living there.
Harmony Village at CareOne Cherry Hill, at 1240 Brace Rd., provides assisted living and memory care for seniors with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. The facility offers discounts to veteran residents.
The wheelchair donation adds to a pattern of veterans-focused outreach by Post 372 this summer. The post's Auxiliary provides meals for veterans at Home for the Brave, a transitional housing program for homeless male veterans in Camden, every third Wednesday of the month.
Members also walked in the Annual Veteran Suicide/PTSD Awareness Walk in Merchantville on Saturday, June 27. At the Monday, June 22, Cherry Hill Township Council meeting, Councilman Daniel DiRenzo recognized Post 372's Flag Retirement Ceremony among community events bringing residents together.
Post 372, headquartered at 1532 Martin Ave., has served Cherry Hill since the early 1950s as a chapter of The American Legion, the nation's largest wartime veterans organization.
The post has not announced a next scheduled visit to Harmony Village.
